Tom & Elliot
“I’ve known Brigid for years through my wife Sam and have attended some of her Yoga classes and indeed a short class when we were expecting our first child; she is an excellent tutor, mentor and guide and is extremely knowledgeable. Her (Birth Empowerment) course was an interesting mix of NCT style information, yoga based practice (breathing, massage, movement) and the Hypnobirthing approach itself.
I learned quickly that Hypnobirthing is a way of both regulating fears, emotions and hormones and channelling your energies (that we all possess, whether we “go in for that sort of thing” or not!!)
What it gave me was a format which I could draw upon during the established labour phase to actually be more help to my labouring wife than just a cold water spray and a wet flannel. Along with a set of visualisations, affirmations and techniques that Sam was able to practice for some weeks before the birth and then put into action on the big day. It also gave me all the information that I needed – and had forgotten - which was a massive help in keeping me calm as the arrival of our son drew ever closer.
It has to be said that the birth was an incredible experience. Sam put into action all that she had learned and practised. We used the affirmations, the music, the visualisations and I used the encouraging words and massage techniques that I had learned during the Hypnobirthing course to great effect.
Sam delivered our son in 1hr 10mins of established labour with just one midwife (and myself) present. No pain meds whatsoever – not even gas and air – no intervention, even for the 3rd stage which did require her to get “back in the zone” to deliver the placenta.
It was truly remarkable experience. Our son was delivered in the safest, happiest way possible and both of them are thriving three weeks later, back home. My wife Sam is an absolute hero and I have to give great credit and thanks to Brigid for helping us to have such a calm, natural and straight-forward labour. I cannot recommend the course enough to everyone.”
